Transitions-

In Virginia, our seasons are clearly defined.  I'm not a winter person, so I like to  declare March 1st as the start of spring. To me, the arrival of March means daffodils, flowering trees, and warmer weather.  Each season, there are things I do to my garden beds to ensure that my flowers stay healthy.  In late February and throughout the month of March, I apply a fungicide to my soil.  I do this to help curb leaf spot.  When leaf spot hits, it impacts the way the flowers show.  Peak bloom with beautiful flowers isn't as pretty if your iris leaves are covered in leaf spot.  There are several products you can use to treat leaf spot.  I've used different brands over the years and I would encourage you to test and see which brand works best for you.  Every garden/gardener is different.  (Hint: Don't forget to write down which products are effective so that you'll know what to use in following years.)  Also, I suggest clipping leaves that are dying or already showing signs of leaf spot. I clip leaves below the lowest spot on the leaf.  I also clean out and check the beds before applying a treatment.  Clean beds help ensure healthier iris.
