Since I joined I the Historical Iris Preservation Society, I've learned so much about iris history in the United States. It's remarkable how many people have played a part in keeping the love of irises growing in the States. From hybridizers, to nurseries, to hobby gardeners - everyone has played a part. Occasionally, you learn about the more "eclectic" ways that people have shared their love of irises.
Located near the southern shore of Lake Superior, stands the Pickle Barrel House in Grand Marais, Michigan. I've included a link below which gives you an overview of the House's history. While the House itself is quite the tourist attraction, the House also features a garden of historic iris varieties. That's another interesting story that I've also included a link to. I'll be posting again in two weeks. Please message me if you have any topics you would like me to cover in my blog.
